Weekend Living

This weekend was all I could have hoped for.

On Saturday Scott and I cleaned the house. I even washed the couch cushions, which felt pretty daring since the tag said "Dry Clean Only". What can I say, I'm a rebel. While Evelyn napped, Finn and I harvested our single Sugar Baby watermelon out of our tiny garden. Then we ate the entire thing, save one slice for sister for when she woke up.

Sometime over the weekend the kids got hold of the camera. Most of the photos were of baby fingers on the lens (no-no!) or close-ups of throw pillows. But they got a few interesting shots.

I finally wrested back the camera, and made some dinner. Rustic Hasselback Potatoes, anyone? I read this recipe in Molly Wizenberg's blog Orangette four years ago, and it's my go-to potato recipe now. They turn out dreamily creamy inside, and crispy outside. I mean, come on! It's the perfect potato.

The rest of the weekend was spent playing outside in much-less-hot weather (about as good as it gets for August in Atlanta), and running into neighborhood friends at the park and the vegan bakery and good old Target. I even took a little nap today, because I felt like it.

Oh, and then this happened.

Turns out Evelyn (age 2) has a very creative spirit. All over the wall. When I found her in the act, she backed away, smiled up at me, and said "Green, mama?" Close, baby, close. I'm not even mad. After all, both of her grandmothers are artists. We've just got to redirect that to paper.

How was your weekend? Any especially lovely moments? Any clue how to get crayon off of the wall?

  1. I know just the thing that'll get that crayon off your wall without taking the paint with it... I'll get it for you. It's a white sponge-like thing called "magic" something. Magic eraser, maybe?
